Delivered through a blend of in-person and online formats, the MHA curriculum combines targeted, technical training with leadership topics to create a transformative educational experience and prepare students to advance their careers.
Engage with a rigorous curriculum situated at the intersection of business and health care
Concentrated on the foundational business aspects of health care, the MHA curriculum is a focused effort by Dartmouth to equip students with skills in financial management, health systems and economics, analytics, and strategic planning. In addition to targeted, technical coursework, students are trained to become health leaders in courses like managing people, negotiations, and leadership. This 12- or 24-month program deep dives into critical business topics as they pertain to the unique landscape of health care. Designed in lockstep with our program mission, the MHA curriculum is a reflection of Dartmouth’s commitment to tackle the challenges in health care and its delivery, with our graduates at the forefront.
A uniquely personal educational experience, on-campus and online
The intense on-campus residential sessions are critical touchpoints throughout the program where students work on projects with their study groups, meet and connect with faculty, and begin the courses they will be taking for the remainder of that term. Students have the opportunity to build relationships with their peers as they receive individualized support from faculty and career services staff that carries throughout the program.
Online learning is a mix of synchronous and asynchronous work, with a predictable weekly rhythm that allows students to plan coursework around their busy personal and professional lives. Students continue to enjoy the benefits of a collaborative and interactive curriculum design with 1-2 live weekly meetings and study group work, sharing ideas, experiences, and knowledge that expand their scope and understanding of health care.
Comprehensive Core Courses
The core courses found in our curriculum prepare students for the multifaceted nature of health care in areas like finance, quality improvement, and operations. Students will learn how to manage across teams and interpret priorities and strategies.
The Capstone is a culminating, experiential learning project in which students partner with a field-based host site in a “consultant-like” role to analyze a defined problem or need identified by the site. Projects serve a mutually beneficial purpose, as students develop critical professional skills and networking opportunities while partner sites gain actionable, feasible project plans.
