Dartmouth’s MHA program is unique in that it allows you to continue to work while completing your degree. It is clear that the staff and professors have a sincere interest in your success, which shows in how the program is delivered.
I am currently a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Hutchinson Clinic in Kansas where I work with patients from birth to 18 years of age at our multi-specialty clinic. I completed my Family Nurse Practitioner degree through Georgetown University in 2021 and prior to my current practice, my role was in maternal child health nursing and bedside labor and delivery.
Personally, I come from a very tight-knit family that have all had careers in healthcare. I am married and have two stepdaughters and one biological daughter and in my free time, I enjoy reading, being outside and traveling with my family. We have a value in our family of teaching our children through experiences such as traveling and have enjoyed recently exploring the United Kingdom and Ireland. We are also very involved in our local church and small group studies.
What drew you to pursue an MHA degree?
I live and work in rural Kansas where there is a very unique healthcare landscape. I am pursuing this MHA degree to further my knowledge in things such as health systems, finance, and negotiations because I see significant potential for integration of healthcare systems and improvement in the current processes in my community. An MHA degree will leave me with the best of both worlds, combining my background in clinical practice with the administrative and financial world which is very new to me.
What has been the best part of the program for you – so far?
The on-campus residential experience is not only enjoyable, but so beneficial. The experience allowed me to meet all of the people that I am interacting with over the course of the program, including my study group. We laid critical groundwork that we will use in the next two years as we work closely together.
What are your career goals post-MHA?
I have a strong desire to see the delivery system of pediatric care and maternal child health in our community be the driving force for overall health within Hutchinson. This degree will allow me to be involved in a wide variety of healthcare systems and help me become part of the changing landscape of healthcare in my local community.
